“Rest Assured”

I am at my best, without a doubt, when I am rested.  My body feels better, I think more clearly and positively, and I feel more easily and deeply connected spiritually.   I am a better decision maker, a better listener, a better pretty much everything.

I can be pretty good at my life when I am tired.  I can  make a great appearance of being all of the things I want to be, but if I push too hard and go too long I find myself in trouble.  Even if nothing actually goes wrong on the outside of my life, the inside of me suffers.

My son Hank is a great example of how wonderful rest can be.  Can that boy ever sleep.  And when he is done with a good night of sleeping or a ten minute power nap,  he wakes up on fire and ready to rock and roll.  As I often say of this young man, “I should take a page out of his book!”

My sister Terry is another one who is good at getting sleep.  Terry is adamant about rest and she has been a great ‘sleep mentor’ for me.  She is a wonderful example and teacher regarding the importance of taking care of myself in this area and I thank her for that.

There are times when I am instinctively very careful about sleep, when I am acting for example.  I know that in order to be at my sharpest and attain my highest potential I must get proper sleep.  The great thing now is that I am finally learning the importance of rest in all areas of my life.  These days I know that if I allow myself to stop and recharge, if only for five minutes, I am much more productive.  I am also healthier, happier, and a lot more fun to be around!

I would also like to say that some of the essential oils from Young Living  have been a God send for me in this area.  Being someone who can be a world class worrier, getting to sleep used to be very hard for me.  Incorporating oils such as Lavender, RutaVala or Peace and Calming have been a huge help for me, and for many others that I know.

So I encourage you to stop and rest throughout your day whenever you can, and to turn off your computer or television and just allow yourself to be.  If you are a prayer and meditator like me, give yourself time for that.  If rest comes to you in other ways, give yourself the space for whatever that is and bless yourself with the gift of silence and peace.  In this busy, multi-tasking and demanding world, I believe that we owe this to ourselves and to each other.

I have finally come to understand the importance of sleep–good sleep.
I diffuse one of my oils nightly and use Ruta vala and Tranquil nightly so for me 4-5 hours is an excellent round of sleep

Lovely, Mo! Nothing like a good night’s rest! This time of year, bring along a hot water bottle. Really relaxes you more than you can imagine!
